An Operational Deflection Shape (or ODS), together with Operational Modal Analysis (OMA), is an animation of the vibration pattern in a structure. Both the amplitude and phase of vibration measurements are animated. This analysis gives additional insight into noise or vibration problems that individual measurements alone do not.
Knowing the deflection of a structure (i.e. the movements), it’s possible to better understand the machine behavior related to a specific frequency and thus identify potential design errors, drastically reducing development phases and issues identification. All of this allows to save a lot of money.
